LAMDA

What is LAMDA?

LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) run examinations in many strands of theatre arts and are an Ofqual recognised qualification.

The LAMDA course is designed to offer young people structured actor training. Children will learn specific techniques to improve performance skills, spoken word and confident communication. These techniques are then further explored, developed and displayed in a group performance of a published text or script to a LAMDA examiner, located at the LAMDA School in London.

This is ideal if your child is serious about drama and wants to take it a step further. We do not recommend leaving a class they are already enjoying at Bare Bones to do LAMDA. Our other classes are focussed on ensemble work which is fun and devised work which all children love. Instead, they have the option to take LAMDA as an addition.

Children and young people will work through Levels, starting at the stage appropriate to their age and ability. There will be two examination dates per year, the first is expected to be taken in January.

Prices:

Half termly and charged at £12 per session.

Currently we offer just the grades for acting (solo/duo/combined.) For examination fees please follow the link below to take you to the LAMDA website;

Outreach

Bare Bones offer outreach projects to educational and non-educational institutions, varying from Shakespeare projects in schools to working with youth groups and young offenders. We aim to provide creative and dynamic drama workshops that explore any subject or issue. Bare Bones is run by experienced practitioners that have worked in mainstream schools, community projects, with children and young adults with special educational needs and with disaffected teenagers. We believe we can inspire any individual in every environment.

In schools we can provide bespoke workshops that explore any subject relevant to the curriculum or sessions that focus on enrichment. Bare Bones, as the name suggests, does not use elaborate sets or costumes but teaches individuals to create interesting drama that does not need anything to support or heighten it.

In our other work with youth groups, we understand that drama is a powerful tool and use this to explore difficult issues indirectly so that each individual can access it in their own personal way without feeling exposed or pressured to perform.

At Bare Bones, we are committed to working with children and young people of any social and economic background, race or ability.

Projects have included workshops to improve group dynamics in primary school classes, a whole day exploring Romeo and Juliet through Physical Theatre with a group of Year 5 EAL students and work with young women at the New Horizons Centre in Kings Cross on how to effectively express and interpret emotions.

More recently we worked on a community project funded by FBET and FBCL with 20 young people aged 12-16 years. The project was entitled ‘Teenage Phone Addict’ and explored the issues faced by young people today and the impact of phone usage on youth culture.

We also created drama outreach projects for PAARS Enfield (Parent Abuse and Reconciliation Service) working with young people aged 8-16 years.

We also create Drama in the Woods projects for schools, taking children out of the classroom and into a world of imaginative story telling in the woods.
